Meat packers handle the slaughtering, processing and distribution of animals such as cattle, pigs, sheep and other livestock. Meat packers primarily focus on producing meat for human consumption, but the industry also yields a variety of meat by-products including hides, feathers, dried blood, and through the process of rendering, fat such as tallow and protein meals such as meat & bone meal. Meat packers must use specialized tools, equipment and supplies to practice their trade. This equipment can include cutting machines, specialized saws and knives, meat dicers, form/fill/seal machines, slicers, and vacuum packaging machines. Supplies can include blades, packaging materials, sausage casings, and equipment accessories.
